این کتاب به بررسی روابط میان فارسی گفتاری و نوشتاری در ادبیات معاصر ایران می پردازد و تفاوت­های دو گونۀ نوشتاری و گفتاری و کاربرد گونۀ گفتاری فارسی معاصر را در متون ادبی و چند رمان­ معاصر بازگو می­کند. از آنجا که یکی از ویژگی‌های بارز وضعیت زبانی ایران معاصر، همزیستی دو معیار فارسی معاصر است: نوشتاری و گفتاری، و در حالی که ادبیات عموماً به گونه‌ای نوشتاری نگاشته می‌شود، فرم‌های معمول «گفتاری» را نیز در متن ادبی می‌توان یافت. این کتاب به دنبال پاسخ به پرسش­هایی از این گونه است که حضور قالب‌های گفتاری فارسی در ادبیات چه چیزی می‌تواند درباره آیندۀ زبان بگوید؟ چه ویژگی­هایی برای انواع گفتاری زبان مشخص است؟ چگونه زبان گفتاری در زبان ادبی بافته می­شود؟ آیا رابطۀ میان گونه گفتاری و نوشتاری در طول زمان تغییر می­کند؟ و این روند چگونه می­تواند بر توسعۀ آیندۀ زبان فارسی تأثیر بگذارد؟

این پژوهش پیکره بنیاد با تحلیل­های کمّی و کیفی بیانگر میزان و چگونگی کاربرد گونۀ گفتاری فارسی معاصر در آثار چند نویسندۀ معاصر ایران است. روش کار تحلیل کیفی اثر به کارگیری معیارهای آوائی، ساخت واژی، نحوی و واژگانی و روش کار تحلیل کمی آن بررسی های آماری و بسامدی است.

This book surveys the relations between the spoken and written registers of Modern Persian in contemporary literature of Iran. It explains the differences between the spoken and written registers, depicting the function of the contemporary spoken registers in literary texts, along with a number of selected contemporary novels. Since one of the vivid characteristic features of the linguistic situation of contemporary Iran is the coexistence of two standards in Modern Persian- the written and the spoken- and while literature is generally composed in the written variety, the typically “spoken” forms can be found in the literary text, as well. 

This work seeks to answer questions such as: what can the presence of spoken Persian forms in literature tell about the future of the language? What are the characteristic features of the spoken variety of language? Does the relationship between spoken and written registers change over time? How can this process affect the future development of Persian language?

The present research reveals the frequency and methods of applying the contemporary spoken Persian in the works of a few contemporary writers through quantitative and qualitative analyses. In applying qualitative analysis, the researcher has used criteria like phonetics, construction of words, syntactic, and vocabulary, whereas in applying the quantitative method she has surveyed statistical and frequency factors.
